On Sunday, we spent our last hour praying for our country and the upcoming elections. Prayer is a tangible way we wait on the Lord and trust Him. Below are the prayer points we used for our time. Rom 13:1-2 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
1 Tim 2:1-4 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Pet 2:13-15 Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.
PRAISE GOD FOR WHO HE IS
- Praise God for His sovereignty
- Praise God for His kingship
- Praise God that He is faithful and powerful
- Praise God that He is executing His plan and His plan is good and righteous
PRAY FOR GOD’S CHURCH
- Pray for unity in God’s Church
- Pray that we would not be distracted from our Great Commission
- Pray that no matter what happens, Christians will proclaim the Gospel
- Pray that we will act in a way consistent with the Gospel through discussions of politics
PRAY FOR THE ELECTION
- Pray that voters will have godly wisdom
- Pray for God’s will in the election
- Pray for safety and fairness in the election
PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY AFTER THE ELECTION
- Pray for all that will be elected, that they will govern well and that we will respect their God-given authority
- Pray for healing in our nation
- Pray that Christians will stand for truth no matter the consequences
PRAY FOR ISSUES GRIEVING THE HEART OF GOD
- Pray for families in our country and that elected officials would uphold the family
- Pray for the protection of the unborn
- Pray for those in crisis and poverty in our country
- Pray for those that feel marginalized in our country
- Pray for racial tensions in our country
